HuntStand: GPS Maps & Tools Examine App

I’ve been using this app for well over two years now, dozens of spots marked, trails tracked, etc. Love this app! Even though the new interface isn’t my favorite, I can adapt. The one issue I have is that my trails through the woods that I tracked to help me safely exit the woods are no longer tracking. Rather, it’s a straight line from where I’ve started to where I’ve stopped, rendering this feature useless. If this issue is not resolved soon, I will stop using the app and cancelling my subscription. Highly disappointing for an app I use so often, hopefully it’s resolved soon (although support told me it would be resolved months ago but the problem still exists).

I can’t accept the invite to our group area. Messages won’t load when I try to view them.

Terrible. The previous version was useful. This is not useful at all. It only shows an aerial view, no property lines, and it wants you to “upgrade” for every basic feature. I’ll be looking for another app. Greedy is the only word that comes to mind.

I would not recommend wasting money on a subscription. The app gives you limited information. Customer support is 02 nonexistent. They don’t look to solve problems. They just look to collect your money.

I hunt all public land where there is no cell service. I relied on offline maps to navigate the deep woods. Now downloading offline maps is impossible. Even when I sit at home with good wifi connection, I can’t download offline maps anymore. It used to be a lot easier to do so. What a way to ruin a good app. ***(03/23/2025) After my annual subscription is over, I will switch If this app doesn't get fixed or at least go back to the old version. Now I can't use my offline maps anymore, can't draw lines, can't track my path anymore without the app freezing/crashing. Too many good pins from about 10 years of usage going to waste.

Thanks huntstand for not protecting my info. Credit monitoring service said my info is on the dark web thanks to you.

You can’t use this app in the woods like OnX, you have to to navigate some really dumb tabs to get to where you want OnX has a menu on the side of the map that just woks.

Serious issues with the update. As soon as I try to use it without cel service the app crashes and/or my hunt areas disappear. This makes it pretty much worthless since my good spots are out of cel service. Downloading the maps does not fix this. The pins come and go and change colors and even show up as the wrong pin sometimes. This is very frustrating, I have been using this app for years paying for the pro version and have thousands of scouting pins saved. If this isn’t fixed soon I will have to switch to OnX. Bummer

The old app was outstanding, the update is absolutely horrible.

I want to highlight that this WAS once a great app. Not sure what provoked them to change it so much, but with the big change I emailed them questioning it and basically received a “oh well” response, months ago. Noticed hundreds of people leaving HuntStand for better map resources and eventually canceled and switched over myself due to them not really updating or giving hope that it will go back to the way it used to. Sorry HuntStand. Ya let us down

This was a great app. Now, after paying my annual subscription fee,I can’t even use it because of an error message…

Lost my offline maps and some public ground areas near me are now marked as “no owner name on record”! You had them marked right, why change them? This is frustrating! Please fix this!

There have been glitches in the app since I have been using it. But since the new update I cannot use it at all. When I try to open the app it gives me a message that says my device is jail broke (it absolutely is NOT) and tells me to use another device that is not jail broke.

As if the complete nonsensical update right in the middle of hunting season wasn’t enough, now I’m getting an “jailbroken device”error message when I try to access the app from my iphone. HuntStand had a security breech and now all my account information appears on the dark web. Save yourself the headache and go with OnX.

Had the app for a few years and was happy until the last few updates. Now I’m receiving the same “Jailbroken Device” concern so many others are complaining about. Probably going to unsubscribe and get OnX Hunts so I can get used to the interface before spring turkey season starts. Very disappointing….

The app used to be good but now every time I open it, all I get is blank screen. I have tried everything to get it to load and nothing works. I just renewed my subscription a month ago and now I’ll have to switch to another app. Very disappointed and I want my money back.

This app is absolutely complete trash now since the last few updates. Click out of the app, you have to go back through everything. Also, you have to turn on landowner info every single time you go in to the app. Save yourself some headache and buy OnX Hunts. TRASH!

Before the update the app worked great. After the update restarting phone the app says my phone is jailbroke. I cannot even use it.

The newest update is absolutely terrible. I have used this app for years and have always been very pleased, but that is not the case any longer. Please make it more like the old version. The icons are so large that the map is almost unusable unless you zoom in a lot. Very difficult to navigate the map hole app now. If not improved soon I’ll be switching

Every time I try to open the app, it tells me that my phone has been jailbroke. That is not the case. Since the new iOS update the app has been giving me this error message . It does not seem to be communicate with my iPhone.

This had been a good app for me, even one that I pay for. The latest update I can’t open the app. It thinks my iPhone is a jail broken device. Please help. Thanks.

The new version of this app is not great at all. I used to put this app above all the others but the changes they have made were not good and I have issues with my app not saving pins and freezing up

Well, now all my boundaries and waypoints are messed up. Cancelling my subscription and looking elsewhere. Developers really screwed up a good thing with update and now this

I’ve used this app for years. I’ve been very happy with it until it lost miles of tracks I created over the years. HuntStand is aware and acknowledges their mistake but has not fixed it and refused any type of refund to me being I pay for the service. I will probably now need to choose another hunting app. Disappointed. Those tracks were miles of effort, gone.

The last update distorted all my marks and all my trails are straight lines. Needs to be fixed.

What happened. Downloaded new update and now it crashes every time you try to open it.How about adding a delete so when you update the app everything you have tried to delete doesn't pop up after the update. Just updated and now I have lost the wind direction feature. iOS

This app used to be the best on the market in my humble opinion. Low annual price and the features were very easy to use and navigate. A couple years ago they doubled their price. Okay, no problem, as long as the service continues to be adequate. Well, not so fast. In 2024, they did a complete overhaul and it was absolutely horrible. Navigation was difficult, lost my entire group that was on our lease and my lease boundaries were gone. Couple months later, which is what prompted this review. I opened the app up to walk to a stand over a half mile in and my paths were no longer paths, they were straight lines. I attempted to email the bunch running this thing, with no response, bad business practice by the way. I would not recommend this app to hunters who expect quality and consistency. This will be my last season using this app.

I just downloaded the new update. Goodbye membership. You guys got greedy didn’t you? You looked at all of your data and said to yourselves, “We can make more money!” I know, it’s not your fault, the big guy wanted the company to fly to the moon over night. “Make me money guys!” “That’s what I paid you to do!” Wrong move fellas. Too many people told you you were pretty. It got to your head just like everyone else that rose too quickly. You fell for the suicidal move. “How!” “How did we fail at what we were suppose to do when you get to the top of the hill!” You will find out. Make sure you have an escape plan.

Don’t know what happened to the trails and paths… I make trails so I know to go around obstacles. Once I save them… it becomes a straight line. All my past paths and trails have become straight lines as well! Very disappointed!

What happened to all of my roads and boundary lines? Everything has been converted to straight lines. Even if I redo them they switched from curved to straight when saved.

HuntStand is as pretty much good as dead to me. All of my trails and property lines, that I’ve spent years working so hard on, are either gone or turned into straight lines! I don’t think I’ve ever been so distraught over an app…

I had the basic version. I decided to upgrade to the premium version and the app deleted all my data points. Several years of stand locations and other features gone! They were not able to locate my data. Will not use again.

Go back to the old HuntStand. The update turned this app to trash

Ok for private property parcels and basic sign/stand mapping. Insufficient for large tracks of public. Lacks many public hiking trails and access points that competitor maps provide. If you also like to do other outdoor recreation on public land this product doesn’t provide enough and you will find wanting for a second map source. Would be a useful add to provide all public land trails that one can find on GAIA, All trails, ONx.

Absolutely PATHETIC! I have completely lost about 12 different maps of areas I hunt. My current hunting club of 14,000 acres just got wiped out. 4 solid years GONE!!! This app is a joke… once again ruined a good thing!

Last year they did an update and it totally messed up the app. It several months go most of the issues. However, nearly a year later there’s still issues and missing functionality…. IOS is still missing the Task List that we’ve used forever. Based on CS they removed it from IOS until further notice yet they still advertise it…

I’ve used huntstand for years and years After the new update it is the worst hunting app I’ve ever used ,will not renew

I lost my roads and half of my stand and camera locations after this update. Not happy at all and will not be using hunt stand next season.

I’ve had nothing but issues out of HuntStand since the big update. I use this app daily and I also pay for a subscription. The map objects never load in the correct form, roads, fences, lines, etc are hardly ever accurate. I’ve been in contact with technical support for over a year now and the only resolution HuntStand gives is “we’ll notify the developers”. Evidently the developers only work one day a year. I expect way more out of a paid app than what HuntStand delivers.

Been using this app since 2013 not long after came out. First the free version then pro whitetail for 10 years. I use it 12 months out of the year. The new updated “user friendly” version has made it completely useless. Emailed support and sent me a user guide that just made it worse trying to find and used the tools I use weekly. Canceling my subscription before it runs out and charges me another year for a useless app. So many negative reviews since it was done and nothing has been done to help anyone. So yea I’m DONE!

The latest update makes navigation horrible. I relied on the tax map overlays and property ownership info, and I cannot figure out how to pull those up. Used to be automatic. Will look for a different App if this doesn’t change.

I downloaded the free version today, and the satellite footage is maybe close to a year old. When trying to update to pro, it just closes the app. Right now it’s no different than google maps.

I contacted support through their website twice with no response. They really don’t seem to care even after I emailed them. I had questions and I wanted to compare HuntStand to OnX. With the lack of support I’ll stick with OnX.

Reason I’m only giving 4 stars is because I tried to upgrade to whitetail pro 70 dollar plan and it kicks me out of the app

The one thing that HuntStand has perfected is the ability to ignore their customers e-mails requesting support. If you want a hunt app that does not answer your requests for help then HuntStand is for you. I highly recommend on X Hunt app and CalTopo with both earning a solid five stars.

HuntStand took an incredible app and made it worthless, right before deer season started (after I’d already paid for my subscription, of course). This new version focused way too much on “field notes” and promoting their podcast than the functionality of the mapping itself. Offline maps used to be great, but even if you have them downloaded you won’t be even get the app to load to view them if you don’t have cell service. I hunt way off the grid with no cell service and had to find my way in and out with other apps since this terrible app I pay for couldn’t help me. It doesn’t even adjust to which direction I’m facing, even with cell service. I deleted and reinstalled countless times as suggested by customer support, each time to no avail. I’ve cancelled my subscription and will be moving to a different app.

The property lines are not updated or accurate. It shows land I bought years ago still belonging to the previous owner. The gis maps has it correct along with my friends hunting app. Do not waste your money find yourself a more accurate and reliable app!
